MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND STRANGULATION OF EX-PARTNER IN WELLINGBOROUGH
A man convicted of assaulting and strangling a woman in Wellingborough has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison.On July 7, Northamptonshire Police responded to a call from a woman who reported that her former partner, 32-year-old Joshua Potts, had become violent during an argument.
An investigation followed, during which the victim explained that Potts had hit her, strangled her, and made threats to kill her that night.
She also disclosed earlier episodes of abuse spanning from February to April of that year.
Potts, a resident of Wellingborough, was charged with multiple offenses and admitted to one count of intentional strangulation, one count of threatening to kill, and two counts of assault by beating.
At Northampton Crown Court on February 12, he received a sentence totaling 40 months in custody.
Additionally, a lifelong restraining order was issued, barring him from direct or indirect contact with the victim through any means, visiting her residence, or contacting one of the witnesses.
Following the sentencing, PC Taylor Ladner of Wellingborough Response commented that the victim endured a terrifying assault during which Potts repeatedly attempted to strangle her.
He emphasized that any level of force used to choke someone is extremely perilous and can be fatal.
The officer also stated that the victim revealed she had suffered previous abuse, including being bitten on the face by Potts.
Ladner expressed his satisfaction that the court’s decision reflected the seriousness of the harm caused and reaffirmed the police force's commitment to tackling domestic abuse.
