MAN JAILED FOLLOWING SEXUAL ASSAULT ON A TEENAGE GIRL
A man aged 51, who committed a sexual assault on a teenage girl in Wellingborough town centre, has been sentenced to six years and six months in prison.
Additionally, he has been subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Marian Barbu appeared before Northampton Crown Court on March 18 for sentencing, following a guilty verdict on two counts involving sexual penetration with a girl aged 13 to 15.
His trial concluded on October 31 of the previous year, during which it was presented that Barbu, who had no fixed address, had sexually assaulted the girl after befriending her in Wellingborough town centre early in the morning on June 3, 2025.
Accused of multiple sexual assaults on the vulnerable girl in the vicinity of Market Square between 3:30am and 5am, Barbu faced a total of eight charges, including four counts of rape.
The jury convicted him of two counts concerning sexual touching and penetration but acquitted him of six other charges.
Alongside his prison sentence, the court imposed an indefinite SHPO preventing him from contact with any child under 16 and forbidding him from residing at any child's home for life.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228.
