FESTIVAL STEWARD JAILED FOR SEX WITH TEENAGE GIRL AT SUFFOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL
A man identified as Alex Stokes has been sentenced to 42 months in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl at the Latitude festival in Suffolk in July 2022.The incident occurred after Stokes, who was working as a festival steward and was dismissed from that role, unlawfully gained access to the festival site.
The court heard that Stokes took advantage of the girl, who was under the influence of alcohol and nearly half his age, often presenting himself as a security guard to gain her trust.
The victim, who attended with her family, accused Stokes of providing her and her friend with drinks, and they later had sex near a music tent.
Stokes admitted to the sexual encounter but claimed he thought she was older, stating he was scared during police interviews.
Prosecutors highlighted that he had been dismissed from his steward role and should have surrendered his pass, but he re-entered the festival unlawfully.
The judge, Nicola Talbot-Hadley, sentenced him while considering his mental health conditions, including Tourette's syndrome.
The court emphasized the vulnerability of the girl and the exploitation involved, stating that Stokes's actions would have significantly affected her confidence and trust.
He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life and is likely to serve half of his sentence.
Stokes expressed remorse after his sentencing, apologizing to his family and indicated he would comply with restrictions on contact with minors.
