WELLINGBOROUGH MAN MURDERED WOMAN DURING "CONSENSUAL BONDAGE SEX"
A man convicted of murdering his former girlfriend following a sexual encounter and restraining her to a bed has been sentenced to serve a minimum of 14 years in prison, as decided by the High Court.
Andrew Murray, residing on Jubilee Crescent in Wellingborough, Northants, was found guilty of killing 33-year-old Lorna Slaney in 2002 and received a life sentence.
Following a case review on Thursday, the Court set Murray’s minimum term at 14 years.
He will only be eligible for release if the Parole Board determines he no longer poses a danger to the public.
During the trial, it was revealed that Murray, then 44, had abducted Miss Slaney from Swinburne Road, Wellingborough, on 22 April 2001, and transported her to his home in a taxi.
He involved another man—who was convicted for false imprisonment—by describing the kidnapping as part of a sexual role-play.
Mr.
Justice Openshaw noted that Murray strangled Miss Slaney during or shortly after engaging in sexual activity.
He also stated that Murray maintained her death was accidental and occurred amid consensual bondage, claiming that she voluntarily went to his house.
The judge referenced a statement from Ms Slaney’s mother, Teena Marr, highlighting the profound effect her daughter’s death has had on their family.
