VIOLENT ABUSER WHO THREATENED TO SET EX-PARTNER'S HOUSE ON FIRE JAILED
A man convicted of severe domestic violence, including threats to burn down his former partner's residence and dragging her into the sea by her hair, has received a prison sentence.William Fletcher, aged 40, had been in a relationship with the woman starting from February 2021.
However, in May of the following year, she ended the relationship and expressed her fear of him.
He later appeared at her home in Peterborough, forcibly kicking a hole in her door, threatening to set her house on fire, attack her with a weapon, and kill her if he was detained by authorities.
In July 2022, while on holiday in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, Fletcher strangled her and pulled her into the sea using her hair.
During various episodes of violence, he also punched her in the face and ribs and lifted her off the ground by her neck.
Fletcher, who resides in Medworth, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, admitted to assaulting her on two occasions and damaging property.
He received a jail sentence of 41 weeks.
He was also previously found guilty of actual bodily harm at an earlier court trial.
Having been remanded in custody since June of the previous year for these offences and for breaching probation conditions, Fletcher was issued a 10-year restraining order.
Det Con Kara Halls commented: “This was a shocking campaign of domestic abuse by Fletcher so I am glad he is behind bars.
“Domestic abuse is a force priority and we will do everything we can to support victims and bring prosecutions.”
