MAN WHO STRANGLED AND ASSAULTED EX-PARTNER JAILED
A man who strangled his ex-partner until she nearly lost consciousness and threatened to burn down her home has been jailed.Terry Allcorn, 35, assaulted the woman after an argument at a Peterborough hotel last year.
On another occasion, he dragged her through the city centre by her hair.
Allcorn, of Allexton Gardens, Peterborough, later admitted intentional strangulation, coercive and controlling behaviour, and assault.
He was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court to three years and one month in prison.
According to Cambridgeshire Police, Allcorn punched and slapped his ex-partner during the hotel row in April 2022.
He later bragged to friends that he could "feel her body going limp" while strangling her.
The force said that in another incident, he pulled her by the hair through the city centre to her car.
Once inside, he demanded her car keys and £20.
Although she initially resisted, she felt forced to hand them over two hours later.
The abuse continued at her home, where he strangled her again after she refused to have sex with him.
Police said that when the pair no longer lived together, Allcorn loitered outside her property at night and frequently confronted her over supposed relationships.
In April, she woke at 4am to find him standing at her bedroom window.
He also threatened to set fire to her house.
At the end of that month, she picked him up in her car following his request.
They argued, and he attacked her with a pole—striking her leg and then hurling the weapon at her.
Detective Constable Lauren Clark, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: "Allcorn's behaviour towards the victim in this case was despicable.
"I hope the conclusion of the court proceedings will act as some comfort to the victim as she looks to rebuild her life.
"I'd encourage anyone in an abusive relationship to seek help."
