STEVEN WATT FROM LANCASTER JAILED FOR POSSESSING OVER 6,000 INDECENT IMAGES

In December 2012, a man was sentenced to prison after police discovered more than 6,000 indecent images of children on his home computer.

Steven Watt, aged 36 and living on Ashton Road, Morecambe, had previous ties to educational institutions in Lancashire and Cumbria through his work in schools and colleges.

He also participated in the Boys Brigade.

He pleaded guilty to charges of creating and possessing indecent images of children and was subsequently sentenced at Preston Crown Court.

On that day, the court sentenced him to 12 months in prison and imposed a ban on him working with children.

Additionally, Watt was placed on the sex offenders register, and a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) was issued to restrict his activities.

Lancashire Constabulary confirmed that officers responded after concerns were raised regarding material found in Watt’s possession.

Authorities seized various items, including the images on his computer and DVDs recovered from his home, which ranged in indecency.

Detective Constable Mark Greaves commented: “Watt had contact with children both through his employment and his recreational activities, and it is disturbing that he possessed such a large number of indecent images of youngsters.

He is now behind bars, but the ban on working with children and the SOPO will also ensure protective measures are in place once he is released, aiming to prevent him from posing a threat to our community.”
