MORECAMBE SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR CONCEALMENT AND BREACH OF COURT ORDERS
A troubling sex offender named Kenneth Grannell, aged 32, attempted to conceal his relationship with the mother of a young girl from authorities. He was apprehended after police were alerted to multiple accesses of his Google account in March 2025.
Grannell is already under a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) imposed after his previous attempt to communicate with a schoolgirl online in 2021.
The order required him to inform police about any internet-accessible devices and to register all social media accounts.
Despite breaching this order in 2024, he was given a second chance.
However, in March 2025, police received information that his Google account was being used repeatedly.
An officer from Lancashire Police visited Grannell at his home in Old Market Court, Morecambe, and questioned him about devices.
He initially claimed possession of none but was later arrested and admitted to having a smartphone in his bedroom drawer, which was active on WhatsApp.
Further searches uncovered a second phone and an unregistered bank card hidden on top of a wardrobe.
Grannell denied knowing why the card was sent to him, claimed he hadn’t activated it, and stated he had the second phone for a long time but it didn't work.
He pleaded guilty to three breaches of the SHPO concerning the mobile phones, WhatsApp account, and bank account notification failure.
During sentencing, Judge Graham Knowles KC highlighted Grannell’s prior 2021 conviction related to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a girl, emphasizing that the child was real and not a decoy.
The judge noted that Grannell had previously breached the SHPO before the current violations, and despite claims of remorse and efforts to address his alcohol problem, his defiance and troubling background warranted a prison sentence.
Grannell was sentenced to 20 months in custody for his breaches and attempted concealment of his relationship with the child's mother, illustrating his significant issues and the danger he posed.
