MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND COMMON ASSAULT AT MORECAMBE HOUSE PARTY
A man who assaulted two women at a house party in Morecambe has been jailed.Dean Cheeseman, 25, was drunk when he assaulted the first woman, after sitting next to her on a sofa.
The court heard how he tried to hug her, put his hand on her thigh, followed her and pushed her towards a wall, placing his hand between her thighs.
The woman pushed him away, but Cheeseman went on to assault a second woman.
The attack, in February 2023, was witnessed by several people at the party and one young man confronted the defendant.
Cheeseman was arrested 11 days later, and said to officers: "Vile lot, they are." He gave no comment in interview but gave a prepared statement in which he claimed the women's allegations were mailcious because he had fallen out with the man he argued with.
However as he was due to stand trial at Preston Crown Court he pleaded guilty to common assault of the first woman and sexual assault of the second.
Judge Robert Altham said: "This was a persistent sexual offence against a female.
It is clearly a serious offence.
When one looks at all the other factors, it seems to me that the balance is plainly in favour of this being immediate custody." He jailed Cheeseman, of no fixed address, for 13 months for sexual assault with four weeks to run concurrently for common assault.
He also made a 10 year restraining order.
