OFFENDER PLEADS GUILTY TO RECKLESS ASSAULT ON PARTNER IN HOTEL BATHROOM
A man named Jonathan Roscilli from Staffordshire, residing at Silverdale Sidings, Silverdale, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm following a reckless attack on his partner in a hotel bathroom.The incident took place on March 17 at The Strathmore Hotel in Morecambe, where the couple was celebrating their five-year anniversary.
After a day of heavy drinking, they returned to their hotel room, where an argument ensued.
During the dispute, Roscilli entered the bathroom while his partner was injured.
She was taken to hospital for treatment, and Roscilli left the premises with their dog.
He explained that he entered the bathroom because he heard his electric toothbrush being thrown into the toilet and admitted to pushing the bathroom door, which struck his partner and caused her to fall into the shower.
While he acknowledged that his conduct was reckless, he denied intentionally assaulting her by forcing his way into the bathroom, grabbing her head, and smashing it against the wall and shower screen, which subsequently broke.
The woman described Roscilli as angry and agitated when returning to the hotel and testified that he threatened to kill her.
She recounted how he grabbed her head with both hands and caused her to hit the wall and shower, then pretended to pass out afterward.
She added that he had been drinking strong beers, around 10%, but clarified she was not affected by alcohol and that she did not want to smoke cannabis, opposing Roscilli’s suggestion.
In court, Roscilli characterized the incident as a conflict related to drug use and denied that he intentionally assaulted his partner, claiming he was simply angry and reckless but not out of control.
The prosecution argued that he purposely caused her injuries, but the judge determined that his actions were reckless and driven by anger rather than intent.
The judge also pointed out that the injured party exaggerated her injuries and noted inconsistencies in both accounts.
Roscilli seemed to attempt to minimize the violence, denying the extent of his actions, and left the scene soon after.
The case was adjourned until December 16, with a pre-sentence report ordered, and Roscilli was cautioned that all sentencing options remain open.
