REECE REED'S HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE IN KETTERING AND WELTINGBOROUGH FARM

Reece Reed, also known as Reece Howard-Reed, a young man born around the year 2000 and currently residing on Club Street in Kettering NN16 8RP, has been involved in a disturbing case of animal cruelty that has shocked the local community. The incident took place in April 2018 at a farm located near Wellingborough, where Reed carried out a brutal attack on several animals, including a prize-winning miniature horse and chickens.

According to court reports, Reed broke into the farm early in the morning, with the alarm system alerting the owner at approximately 7:30 a.m. The farm owner, who responded to the alarm, discovered Reed in the premises. Prosecutor Priya Bakshi detailed the scene: Reed was found running towards a summer house on the property, where he was seen holding a six-inch kitchen knife. The owner noticed that one window had been pried open and another had been smashed, indicating a forced entry.

As the owner approached, Reed, who was naked from the waist down, fled the scene, leaving the owner to search the stables for any injured animals. It was during this search that the owner, identified as Sol’s owner, found his prized miniature show horse, Sol, in a severely injured state. Sol had been stabbed 20 times in the back legs and rear, suffering heavy bleeding from the wounds. The attack was particularly devastating because Sol was a valued show horse, with a prize worth over £3,000, and was on the path to becoming a champion.

In addition to the attack on Sol, Reed had also mutilated three chickens by cutting off their wings, which subsequently had to be euthanized. The cruelty inflicted upon these animals was described as sadistic and shocking. The owner expressed his heartbreak in a victim impact statement read aloud in court, stating, “After I learned that Sol had been hurt I was devastated and heartbroken. Sol was and is my best friend and he will always be part of the family.”

Reed later pleaded guilty to the charges related to the attack. His defense lawyer, Osmun Munir, described Reed as “remorseful and expresses sympathy for the family,” suggesting some level of regret for his actions. However, the court was faced with the challenge of sentencing Reed appropriately. Judge Fowler acknowledged the severity of the acts but noted that the charges were classified as “criminal damage,” which limited the maximum sentence to two months in jail for the mutilations and six months for carrying the knife.

During sentencing, Judge Fowler condemned Reed’s behavior, stating, “This episode can only be described as wholly despicable. The charges that you face today do not reflect the wickedness of your behaviour. This has been treated as if it were criminal damage against two inanimate objects. It isn’t. And it is in my view and error that ought to be corrected.”

It was also revealed that Reed was already serving a sentence of three years and seven months at Peterborough HMP, imposed in March 2019 for previous crimes, including burglary and vehicle theft. Despite his prior convictions, the court’s hands were somewhat tied in delivering a harsher punishment for the recent animal cruelty.

In total, Reed was sentenced to two months in jail for mutilating the animals and an additional six months for carrying the knife, highlighting the seriousness of his actions and the ongoing concern about animal cruelty in the region.
