A 36-year-old man has received a prison sentence after admitting to violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and possessing indecent images of a child.
Mark Anthony Sinclair, who previously resided in Kettering, was granted a SHPO in January 2024 at Wood Green Crown Court following his conviction on a sexual offence involving a minor under 16.
The order was set for a duration of ten years and included conditions such as prohibiting him from deleting his internet browsing history or having unsupervised contact or communication with anyone under the age of 18.
In May of the previous year, Sinclair engaged in an online conversation with someone he believed to be a 12-year-old girl and later continued the chat on a private messaging platform.
Unbeknownst to him, the profile he was communicating with was part of a covert operation aimed at protecting children from online predators.
Evidence indicating he had breached the SHPO was handed over to Northamptonshire Police’s MOSOVO team, who detained Sinclair on May 21.
During a search of his mobile phone, authorities discovered indecent images of children.
Sinclair was charged with multiple counts: one for breaching the SHPO, another for attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor, and three counts for producing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child.
On May 22, he appeared before Northampton Magistrates’ Court, and his case was subsequently transferred to Northampton Crown Court for a full trial.
On July 24, Sinclair pleaded guilty to all charges.
He appeared before the court again on February 25 for sentencing, where he was sentenced to 44 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.
