ROBERT SMITH SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS IN PRISON OVER STONE MANSLAUGHTER CASE
A 51-year-old man named Robert Smith, of Jordan Way in Stone, Staffordshire, has received a three-year prison sentence after being convicted of the manslaughter of his wife, Pauline Smith, aged 53.
He was found guilty by a jury after being cleared of murder charges.
The court heard that Robert stabbed Pauline at least eight times on Christmas Day, believing she was unfaithful.
The investigation revealed that the couple had argued over financial matters, specifically related to a property they had purchased in Bulgaria, with Pauline being the sole name on the deeds.
The dispute ignited after they returned from Bulgaria a week earlier, and the argument started because only Pauline's name appeared on the property documents.
The court was told that they had been out for a meal on Christmas Eve, and Pauline died at home the following morning.
Det Insp Ronnie Walker, who led the investigation, said: 'Despite the difficulties this couple faced, the death of Pauline was tragic for everyone concerned.
It is hoped their families can now find some closure to the events of last Christmas.'
