NORTH STAFFORDSHIRE MAN DANIEL SHAW JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AND STRANGULATION
Daniel Shaw, who is 32 years old and from North Staffordshire, was residing at a holiday park in Cornwall at the time of the incident. He admitted to the court in Truro Crown Court to charges of assault and unintentional strangulation.
The court heard that Shaw and the victim had been involved in a relationship for roughly two to three years after meeting in Staffordshire.
After taking a holiday in Cornwall, they chose to settle there, living at a holiday park near Helston, as reported by CornwallLive.
During the incident, Shaw inflicted a terrifying experience on his partner by inserting a cloth into her mouth, pushing her into nearby bushes, and issuing threats to kill her.
Though their relationship initially appeared stable, the woman’s mental health deteriorated, partly due to feelings of isolation and limited amenities at the site.
She later faced medical issues that required surgery and accused Shaw of neglect.
In July, when Shaw came to collect her belongings, he pushed her onto a bed, restrained her, and forced a cloth into her mouth, claiming he could end her life instantly if he wanted.
She managed to escape by jumping out of a window.
Shaw was sentenced to serve 15 months in prison and was issued a restraining order lasting ten years.
The court emphasized the seriousness of his offenses, with remarks on his remorse.
Tony Ciocci from the Probation Service stated that Shaw is ashamed of his actions and hopes to avoid negative influences tied to his past convictions by remaining in Cornwall.
