PETERBOROUGH MAN SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS FOR VIOLENT ATTACK ON WOMAN
A man named Mohammed Beila, aged 22, was involved in a violent attack in Peterborough city centre where he repeatedly punched and stamped on a woman.He was caught on CCTV footage and identified through a facial recognition system.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 6, 2024, when a member of the public found the seriously injured woman in Church Walk, off Broadway.
The woman, in her thirties, sustained significant injuries including a broken collarbone and a fractured eye socket and was taken to hospital where her condition was confirmed not to be life-threatening.
After reviewing CCTV footage, police identified Beila as the perpetrator.
He was arrested on February 7, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on October 11, and pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison and placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Emily Richardson stated that this was a horrific, violent and targeted attack with the victim sustaining serious injuries.
Beila initially denied the offence but changed his plea following overwhelming evidence against him.
