PETERBOROUGH MAN MELVYN LESTER SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR ABUSING SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN LEICESTERSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Melvyn Lester, a 47-year-old van driver from Waltham Close, Welland, Peterborough, was found guilty of heinous sexual offenses involving a young girl. The court proceedings revealed that Lester had engaged in a sexual act with a six-year-old girl and had taken a photograph of the act, actions that have now led to a significant prison sentence.Despite the conviction, Lester maintained his innocence throughout the trial, denying all allegations and asserting that he was not guilty of the charges brought against him. The jury, however, was convinced of his guilt after hearing the evidence presented in Leicester Crown Court. As a result, Lester was sentenced to 13 years in prison for his crimes.
In addition to his prison term, Lester will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. The court also imposed strict restrictions on his future conduct, including a ban from working with children and from residing in any household where children are present. Furthermore, he was placed under a sexual offences prevention order, which aims to prevent any further harm and monitor his activities.
The offences were committed in Leicestershire, although Lester’s residence is in Peterborough. The case came to light when police, in 2009, seized Lester’s phone during an unrelated investigation. During the forensic examination of his device, officers discovered a deleted photograph depicting the sexual act involving the young girl. This evidence played a crucial role in securing the conviction.
Judge Simon Hammond, presiding over the case, expressed his disapproval of Lester’s attitude, stating, “He’s shown no remorse. He did his best to wriggle out of guilt.” The judge emphasized the importance of protecting children from sexual predators, underscoring the court’s duty to safeguard vulnerable victims.
It was also revealed during the trial that Lester has fathered 12 children with six different women. Importantly, none of these children is the victim involved in this case, highlighting the complex and troubling personal background of the offender.
