MATTHEW JANKOWSKYJ'S SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE IN MILNTHORPE AND MORECAMBE

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Milnthorpe and Morecambe, Matthew Jankowskyj, aged 24, was found to possess an alarming collection of indecent images of children. The investigation began when police executed a raid on his residence located on Albert Road, Morecambe, on April 27. During the search, authorities uncovered two laptops, a hard drive, a contract related to an inflatable doll, and two cannabis plants being cultivated in a wardrobe within the property.

Jankowskyj, who has a prior conviction dating back to 2005 for possessing indecent images, did not deny the allegations. He was taken into custody and subsequently admitted to downloading and storing the illicit material. He revealed to officers that he would typically view around 100 such images each week to satisfy his sexual urges, highlighting a troubling pattern of behavior.

Further analysis of the electronic devices was conducted by Constable Carter of Lancashire Constabulary. The examination revealed a disturbing array of content stored across 25 folders, each containing hundreds of images. These folders were clearly labeled with titles such as “Naked Baby Girl” and “Baby 1-3 years,” indicating the disturbing nature of the material. The images ranged from less severe to the most serious, classified as level five, with nearly 200 images falling into this highest category.

Jankowskyj admitted to both creating and possessing indecent images of children. He also requested that an additional 63,000 images be taken into consideration during sentencing, emphasizing the extent of his collection. The authorities noted that among these were almost 200 images classified as level five, representing the most severe category of child exploitation material. Importantly, the court was informed that Jankowskyj had not been involved in distributing these images nor had he engaged in any contact sexual offenses involving children.

Following his arrest, Jankowskyj was held on remand for four months before appearing before Preston Crown Court for sentencing. Judge Robert Brown addressed the court, stating, “It is not only in the interests of society at large but also in your interests that rather than simply return you to prison for a few months more where there is no opportunity for you to undergo any kind of therapeutic program, it would be better to hold over you for the next two years the prospect of a prison sentence while at the same time offering you all the assistance you need.”

As a result, the judge sentenced Jankowskyj to a 12-month prison term, suspended for two years. He was also placed under the supervision of the Probation Service and mandated to participate in any sexual offending programs as directed by his supervising officer. Additionally, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) was issued, prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with children under 16 and disqualifying him from working with children indefinitely. The court also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the hard drive and cannabis plants, while the laptops were to be returned once the illicit images had been removed from them.
