KEVIN JARRETT FROM PETERBOROUGH SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN PETERBOROUGH
In a case that has shocked the local community of Peterborough, Kevin Jarrett, a 56-year-old man residing on Clarence Road, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 14 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young boy.The crimes spanned over a period of seven years, beginning in 1998, during which Jarrett gained the trust of the victim’s family before systematically abusing the child.
Jarrett’s criminal activities came to light after police investigations that commenced in April 2015.
During their inquiry, officers executed a search at his residence and confiscated various pieces of evidence, including photographic slides that depicted the abuse.
These materials played a crucial role in establishing the nature and extent of his crimes.
Initially, Jarrett appeared in Peterborough Crown Court on July 13, 2016, where he entered a plea of not guilty.
A trial was scheduled for November 28 of the same year, but shortly before the proceedings, he indicated a change of stance and decided to admit guilt.
On December 5, 2016, during a hearing at the same court, Jarrett pleaded guilty to two counts of raping a boy under the age of 16, taking indecent photographs of a child, and engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
Following his guilty plea, the court handed down a severe sentence of 14 years in prison.
Beyond the custodial term, Jarrett was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Additionally, he was subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, which imposes strict restrictions aimed at preventing any further offenses.
A restraining order was also granted to protect the victim and prevent any contact with him.
This case underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in safeguarding vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
The sentencing reflects the gravity of Jarrett’s crimes and the ongoing commitment of the justice system to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse.
