JULIAN SPROTT FROM PETERBOROUGH SENTENCED AFTER CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES FOUND IN COMPUTER REPAIR SCAN
In July 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving a man from Peterborough whose actions led to a serious criminal investigation and subsequent sentencing.The incident began when a local computer repair business discovered troubling content on a laptop brought in by a customer.
The owner of the repair shop, upon opening a file labeled XXX, initially suspected a virus or malware.
However, what he uncovered was far more sinister — an indecent image of a child.
Realizing the severity of the discovery, the business owner immediately contacted law enforcement authorities.
When police officers arrived at the premises, they carefully examined the contents of the laptop.
The officers were profoundly distressed by the material they found, which included highly illegal and disturbing images and videos.
Shortly after the police investigation commenced, Julian Sprott, aged 60 and residing on Haynes Walk in Peterborough, arrived at the shop to retrieve his laptop.
Unbeknownst to him, officers from Bedfordshire Police were waiting for him outside.
As he attempted to collect his device, he was promptly arrested by the officers on the scene.
Following his arrest, Sprott was taken into custody and later appeared before Luton Crown Court.
During the court proceedings, he admitted to multiple serious charges, including possessing an extreme image, creating indecent images of children, and possessing a prohibited image of a child.
The evidence presented revealed that the devices owned by Sprott contained some of the most heinous child sex abuse material imaginable.
The content included hundreds of still images and video clips depicting penetrative sexual acts involving small children, acts of bestiality, and sadistic abuse.
Prosecutor Daniel Kersh described the material as “very disturbing,” emphasizing the severity of the crimes committed.
The court was informed that the images and videos found on Sprott’s devices represented some of the worst child exploitation content ever encountered.
In light of these findings, the court sentenced Julian Sprott to 18 months in prison, though the sentence was suspended for two years.
Additionally, Sprott was ordered to participate in a thirty-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, which involves working with the probation service to address his behavior.
To further prevent future offenses, he was issued a sexual harm prevention order.
This order restricts his access to the internet and mandates regular police visits to monitor his online activity, ensuring he remains under supervision and does not pose a further risk to children.
