MASSEUR WHO FILMED 900 WOMEN HAS JAIL TERM REDUCED
Julian Roddis, aged 50 from Peterborough, was apprehended after authorities discovered a suspicious alarm clock that had been used to produce roughly 2,000 video recordings. His prison sentence was reduced from four years to three years upon appeal at the Court of Appeal.
The woman who reported him, who was pregnant at the time, expressed that the reduced punishment "doesn't feel like justice." Originally, he was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court in July after admitting to nine counts of voyeurism.
The woman, who encountered him, stated her brother-in-law had purchased her a massage session including Roddis when she was five-and-a-half months pregnant.
After noticing the alarm clock connected to a laptop with a red indicator light, she went on Amazon, searched for "digital clock, hidden camera," and found the same model listed.
Following her initial report and complaints about police handling, officers visited Roddis, who then confessed to his offenses.
At the time of his conviction, only nine victims of Roddis had been identified.
In an interview with Victoria Derbyshire on BBC Radio 2, she revealed: "It was only a couple of days ago that I was contacted by the detective who was responsible for the case and she said that he'd put in an appeal that the sentence was too harsh.
The Court of Appeal granted his appeal and reduced it to three years, so it's essentially, what, four months per identified victim?" She added that the Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to three years, meaning approximately four months per victim.
She described the situation as "abysmal," emphasising how such a short jail term is a stark breach of privacy and an indication of victims' vulnerability.
The woman also said the case underscores how crimes of this nature are often not given sufficient seriousness, especially those targeting women.
