A man who intruded into his former partner's home to harass her has received a prison sentence.
Darrell Richards, aged 52, gained entry to the residence in Peterborough through an unlocked back door while the woman was outside in her garden.
This occurred despite Richards being under a restraining order that forbade him from contacting or visiting her.
When the woman discovered Richards inside, he lunged at her, causing her to fall backwards.
Witnesses nearby heard her screams for help and contacted law enforcement.
Richards, who has no fixed address, was swiftly detained and subsequently admitted to harassment charges.
He was sentenced to a year in prison at Huntingdon Law Courts on Wednesday, 24 September.
Detective Constable Joshua Crown, who led the investigation, stated: “Richards terrified his victim and showed a complete disregard for the restraining order prohibiting him from contacting her and entering her address.
These orders are in place to keep people safe.
“I am glad justice has been done today and Richards is behind bars."
