CURTIS GREEN SHOCKS RHONDDA CYNON TAFF WITH BRUTAL SEXUAL ASSAULT AT CARDIFF CROWN COURT
A disturbing case of sexual violence has come to light involving Curtis Green, a 28-year-old man from Rhondda Cynon Taff, who subjected a woman to a violent and traumatic assault during what was supposed to be consensual intimacy. The incident unfolded in a private residence, where Green initially asked his victim for sex. After some persistent urging, she reluctantly agreed to engage in sexual activity. However, what began as consensual soon turned into a nightmare as Green's behavior escalated into violence.According to court proceedings, Green's assault was relentless. Despite the victim's desperate pleas and tears, he refused to cease his violent actions. When she attempted to escape the situation, Green forcibly dragged her back to the bed by her wrists, showing a disturbing lack of regard for her distress. The court heard that Green struck her multiple times in the face with a closed fist, an act that not only inflicted physical pain but also appeared to excite him, as he was described as becoming aroused by the violence.
The judge, Eugene Egan, addressed the court during the sentencing, condemning Green's actions in stark terms. He stated, "You were sexually turned on by the use of violence. You were powerfully built, fit and athletic... You brutalized the victim." The severity of Green's conduct was underscored by the victim's own words, which she expressed in a heartfelt victim personal statement read aloud by prosecutor Andrew Davies. She described the profound and lasting impact the assault has had on her life, stating, "I cannot begin to explain the devastation and all-encompassing effect this abuse has had on my life. The abuse lasted less than an hour but the trauma will last me the rest of my life."
She recounted feeling lost, emotionally numb, and stripped of her dignity, describing herself as feeling like a prisoner in her own home. The victim revealed that she had installed cameras for her own safety and expressed relief that Green was now in custody. Her statement detailed her ongoing struggles with mental health, her difficulty in trusting others, and her feelings of shame and vulnerability. She admitted to battling body dysmorphia and feeling degraded during the assault, which compounded her trauma. Her emotional account highlighted the deep scars left by Green's actions, including thoughts of ending her life and fears that her experience would be dismissed or not believed.
Green, who resides on Rhiwgarn Road, Trebanog, Porth, denied the charge of rape, claiming that the sexual activity was consensual and that she sustained no injuries. However, the jury found him guilty after deliberation. The court also learned that Green has a partner and a three-year-old son, and that his own father left the family when he was the same age, a fact that added a layer of complexity to his background. It was also revealed that Green had a difficult childhood, with a relative murdered, which caused additional pain to his family.
In sentencing, Green was handed a total prison term of eight years. The court determined that he would serve two-thirds of this sentence before being eligible for release on licence. Additionally, he was subjected to a lifelong restraining order and sex offender notification requirements, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the public. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Rhondda Cynon Taff, highlighting the importance of justice for victims of sexual violence and the need for continued vigilance against such heinous acts.
