YOUNG MAN JAILED FOR COERCIVE CONTROL AND THREATS TO KILL PREGNANT PARTNER
The article details the harrowing actions of Jaydon Lewis, a 20-year-old man who engaged in coercive and controlling behavior towards his partner, including threats to kill her and her unborn child.Over their four-month relationship, he dictated her movements, accessed her social media accounts, and isolated her from family and friends.
Lewis also committed acts of violence, notably throwing her towards a bed during an argument around Christmas 2023.
After they broke up, he sent her videos of him setting her belongings on fire with a blowtorch.
Despite her efforts to cut off contact, in April 2024, she woke to find 58 messages from him containing a detailed plan to kill her, saying: “I have a plan which is f***ed up...
I have got the tools I need… you are going to pay the price and suffer in the worst way… I will cut you open, the baby will die.” Prosecutor Pamela Kaiga outlined Lewis’s coercive actions, including setting curfews, questioning her upon her return from work, locking her out of her phone and social media, and monitoring her every move, which severely affected her mental health.
At Cardiff Crown Court, Lewis pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behavior, common assault, and arson.
He was sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders’ institution for the three offences and an additional month for breach of a previous suspended sentence, with up to half served in custody.
A restraining order was imposed, barring him from contacting the victim or visiting her workplace or home.
The victim, a nursery carer, expressed her trauma and fear for her unborn child, revealing she initially was unaware of her manipulation and lost contact with her loved ones.
