CPS AUTHORISES CHARGES FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION INTO CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AT FORMER CHILDREN’S CENTRE
** update *** * please note * offender due in court in March 2026 in relation to new charges.Trial to start January 2027 in relation to original charges *update Riddell, aged 69, of Cwmbach, Rhondda Cynon Taf, was arrested on 24 February and has been charged with a further 21 offences: Two counts of rape of a female under 16 One count of gross indecency with a girl under 14 years of age Three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years One count of indecent assault on boy under the age of 14 years 14 counts of assault / ill-treat / neglect / abandon a child / young person to cause unnecessary suffering / injury Following an investigation into historical cases of child sexual exploitation in Monmouthshire, two men have been formally charged.
Hannah von Dadelszen, the Chief Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, stated that the CPS received comprehensive evidence from Gwent Police and authorized the charging of two individuals with multiple counts of child sexual offences.
T/Detective Chief Superintendent Andrew Tuck, representing Gwent Police, explained that a dedicated team of detectives had collaborated with the CPS and local authorities for an extended period.
This joint effort was part of a prolonged probe into allegations of non-recent sexual offences connected to a former children’s home in Abergavenny, ultimately leading to charges against the two men for various sexual crimes involving children.
Angus Riddell (07/05/56) from Rhondda Cynon Taf has been charged with 38 offences: Three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years.
