CHARLES KENT PETERBOROUGH PENSIONER JAILED FOR GROSS INDECENCY ON YOUNG GIRLS

In a case that has shocked the local community, Charles Kent, a 77-year-old former resident of West Norfolk now living in Deeping St James, Peterborough, has been sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction for serious sexual offenses involving two young girls.

The crimes, which occurred approximately 15 years ago, came to light after a trial at Norwich Crown Court, where Kent was found guilty of charges related to gross indecency with the victims.

Judge Katharine Moore, presiding over the case, emphasized the profound and lasting impact that the abuse had on the victims.

She acknowledged the severity of the offences and the emotional scars inflicted upon the young girls, which have left a significant mark on their lives.

Despite the gravity of the crimes, the judge also took into account Kent’s health condition and his role as a full-time carer for his wife, which influenced her sentencing decision.

During the proceedings, William Carter, representing Kent, highlighted the defendant’s fragile health, describing it as a “cocktail” of ailments.

Carter further informed the court that since the trial, Kent had been hospitalized twice, underscoring his physical vulnerability.

He argued that Kent poses a minimal risk of re-offending, given his current health status and circumstances.

Following the sentencing, Kent was also ordered to be placed on the sex offenders register for life, a measure intended to monitor and prevent any future offenses.

The case has once again brought to light the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring offenders to justice, regardless of their age or health status.
