SEX OFFENDER CAUGHT BREACHING ORDER

A registered sex offender was apprehended after he was seen violating a court order by supervising a nine-year-old child alone.

Aaron Batchelor, aged 23, was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) following a 2015 conviction for creating and possessing indecent images of minors.

Residing in Peterborough, Batchelor was detained after the child's mother became aware of his prior criminal record.

He admitted to breaching his SHPO during a hearing at Peterborough Crown Court and was subsequently sentenced to 16 months in prison.

During Tuesday's court session, it was revealed that Batchelor, living on Wootton Avenue, was also placed on the sex offenders register in 2015.

In July of this year, Batchelor communicated via social media with a 16-year-old male and later spent the night at his residence, where he lived with his nine-year-old brother.

The court heard that on July 31, Batchelor was left alone at the house to care for the younger boy.

He was taken into custody on August 3 by officers from the Public Protection Unit after the child's mother read reports about Batchelor's past conviction for failing to update his notification requirements.
