NELSON OFFENDER JAILED FOR DRUGGING AND RAPING WOMAN
A man named Zulfiqar Asif, aged 38 and residing on Halifax Road in Nelson, has been convicted and sentenced following a serious criminal case.He was handed a life sentence and is required to serve a minimum of eight years after being found guilty of drugging and raping a woman at addresses in Colne and Blackburn.
The incidents took place between late 2014 and February of the following year at two different locations, where Asif administered drugs to render the victim, a woman in her 30s, unconscious before assaulting her sexually.
The investigation revealed that he recorded some of the abuse on his mobile phone, which was later recovered and used as evidence in court.
Despite his repeated denials of guilt, the jury convicted him of one count of administering a noxious substance, three counts of rape, and one count of controlling or coercive behavior.
Detective Constable Melissa Chadwick, who led the investigation, described Asif as a dangerous individual who manipulated and abused a vulnerable woman.
The judge condemned him for his horrific abuse and emphasized that he would not be eligible for parole for at least eight years.
The authorities hope that his imprisonment will help the victim move forward with her life.
The article notes that Asif was punished for his predatory actions, removing him from the streets.
