MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING GIRL IN HIS SHOP
A man has received a prison sentence after he sexually assaulted a teenage girl in his Nelson shop.
Naeem Akram, aged 36 and previously residing on Chapel House Road, confined the store’s door at Chapel House Grocers and assaulted the 15-year-old girl, who had entered the shop on her way home from school.
The girl managed to escape and returned home, where she reported the incident to the police.
Akram was subsequently detained and charged with the offence.
He admitted to the sexual assault, and on Wednesday, May 6, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Preston Crown Court.
During court proceedings, the victim delivered a personal statement indicating that the assault, which occurred in November 2023, drastically affected her life, leaving her frightened and in need of counselling.
