NELSON, LANCASHIRE: CHARLES BRUCE
Bruce was found guilty of severe animal neglect after an investigation by the RSPCA.During the inspection, they discovered a three-year-old dog named Bella, who was collapsed and trembling on the kitchen floor, covered in thick mud and filth.
She was lying amidst feces and urine, and the smell was described as "unbearable." Veterinarians had to perform CPR on Bella when her heart stopped.
Additionally, the remains of another dog, in a state of advanced decomposition, were found inside a locked garden shed.
A male German Shepherd was discovered dead inside this shed.
The remaining dogs—Bella, Tyson, and Duke—were taken into RSPCA custody.
Bella was initially taken to Vets for Pets in Colne, then transferred to Vets Now in Bury for continuous care.
Although she was in critical condition, she eventually recovered.
Tyson and Duke were taken to the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital; Duke was in such poor health that he was euthanized to prevent further suffering.
Tyson was underweight and covered in feces.
Bella and Tyson, who was renamed Monty, received rehabilitation from the RSPCA Southport, Ormskirk & District Branch and have since been adopted.
Bruce admitted to two violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
He explained to officers that he believed someone else was feeding the dogs when he was absent and that he had not stayed at the house due to a lack of gas and electricity.
It was also reported that Bruce was experiencing "difficult family issues" and was "suffering from poor mental health."
