WILLIAM MULLEN FROM CLYDEBANK SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES ON ROMAN HILL AND CROFTPARK ROADS
A resident of Clydebank, William Mullen, aged 30 and living on Abbeylands Road, has been officially placed on the sex offenders register following his guilty plea to serious misconduct involving two women. The incidents took place on June 10 of the previous year within the town of Clydebank, specifically targeting two women whom Mullen approached with inappropriate and sexually explicit verbal communication.According to court records, Mullen directed lewd and sexually suggestive language at the two women without their consent, with the apparent intent of either seeking sexual gratification or causing humiliation, distress, or alarm. The victims were approached separately at two different locations within Clydebank—Roman Hill Road and Croftpark Road—both well-known areas within the town. These encounters have raised concerns about public safety and the need for stricter measures to protect individuals from such invasive behavior.
On January 13, Mullen appeared before Dumbarton Sheriff Court to face the charges. During the hearing, he was represented with the assistance of a sign language interpreter, indicating that he may have communication difficulties. His defense solicitor requested that instead of imprisonment, Mullen be given a community payback order, citing his ability to understand the proceedings and his capacity to perform unpaid work. The solicitor argued that this would serve as an appropriate alternative to incarceration.
Sheriff Maxwell Hendry did not hold back in condemning Mullen’s actions, describing his behavior as “appalling” and emphasizing the importance of safeguarding victims from such misconduct. The sheriff underscored the rights of victims to be protected from harassment and inappropriate conduct, reinforcing the seriousness of the offense.
As a result, Mullen was sentenced to an 18-month community supervision order. This order includes a requirement for him to complete 150 hours of unpaid community work within a year. Additionally, Mullen will remain on the sex offenders register for a period of 18 months, ensuring ongoing monitoring and management of his conduct to prevent further offenses.
