CLYDEBANK ABUSER THREATENED TO CUT WOMAN'S TONGUE OUT
A man from Clydebank has confessed to abusing two former partners over nearly two decades.David Stewart admitted to abusing one partner from 2007 at addresses in Clydebank and Milton.
The 43-year-old appeared before Dumbarton Sheriff Court on May 6 to face several charges.
From December 2010 to March 2022, he persistently contacted his first ex-partner via text and email despite being told to stop.
His behavior included shouting, swearing, making threats, and uttering abusive comments, along with repeatedly appearing at her residence.
In 2007, he physically assaulted her by grabbing her around the neck, squeezing it, and causing her to have difficulty breathing.
Between October 2011 and October 2013, he also assaulted a child by forcibly dragging them from school, chasing after them, grabbing their arm, throwing them into a bedroom, and refusing to let them go.
From December 2013 to December 2015, Stewart was abusive toward a second partner, shouting, swearing, making derogatory remarks about her appearance and clothing, demanding her whereabouts, and requesting photo evidence.
He visited her home uninvited, threatened to break windows, accused her of cheating, and repeatedly contacted her via phone, text, and email.
At one point, he brandished a knife and threatened to cut out her tongue.
He also entered her residence, locked the door to keep her out, and threatened to take his own life.
On February 2, 2014, he assaulted his second partner by grabbing her head and covering her mouth and nose to restrict her breathing.
Prosecutors accepted that while Stewart was detained at Barlinnie prison, he sent a letter to a child requesting contact with their mother, his first ex-partner.
They also agreed that he was not guilty of some other charges, including theft and exposing a child to his abusive conduct.
Sheriff John McElroy KC postponed sentencing until June 16 to allow for reports to be prepared.
