MAN JAILED FOR ATTACKS ON WOMAN WITH SCISSORS
A man responsible for attacking his partner with scissors and a fire poker has received a prison sentence.He pointed the scissors at her and used them to cut her face during a series of assaults spanning over a year.
John McCafferty admitted to engaging in continuous abusive behavior towards a current and former partner between March 1, 2024, and June 2, 2025.
The incidents occurred at two locations in Clydebank and other sites.
During the assaults, he displayed the scissors, inflicted a facial cut with them, bit her on the face, struck her head using a fire poker, and dug his fingernails into her face—all causing injuries.
The 29-year-old, currently detained at Low Moss prison, was sentenced at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on December 19.
Sheriff John McElroy KC sentenced McCafferty to 18 months in prison, with the start date backdated to June 6.
An additional four-month sentence for a separate offense will run concurrently, and following release, he will be under social work supervision for nine months.
His previous drug treatment and testing order, intended to reduce his offending, was revoked.
