CLYDEBANK OAP SEX PEST BROKE COURT ORDER WITH VPN ON LAPTOP
A persistent OAP sex pest claimed to cops he didn't know what a VPN was - and a sheriff was having none of it.James McCabe was previously convicted of a sex crime but the court and prosecutors could not confirm the nature of the offence.
His sentence in February 2022 included a five-year sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), outlining a number of restrictions such as the use of electronic devices.
And the 76-year-old broke that on July 8, 2024, when he was found to have a VPN installed on his laptop, potentially hiding his IP address and internet activity.
When he was cautioned and charged by police in 2024, he told them it was "pure ignorance".
Sheriff John McElroy KC said: "Looking at this man's record and what he has done before, there is no way on earth he did not know what a VPN was for." Sheriff McElroy deferred sentence until January 20 for reports to be prepared.
The original SHPO restrictions remain in place.
