WAYNE SCARRATT FROM MALVERN ATTACKS 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT CHASEWATER COUNTRY PARK IN STAFFORDSHIRE
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the local community, Wayne Scarratt, a 28-year-old man from Malvern, was involved in a brutal assault and sexual attack on a young girl at Chasewater Country Park in Burntwood, Staffordshire. The attack occurred in the evening hours of August 7, 2022, in a wooded area within the popular Midlands recreational site. This assault took place just two weeks after Scarratt was released from prison, raising serious concerns about the safety of the community and the effectiveness of parole measures.According to reports, the victim, a 13-year-old girl, had previously encountered Scarratt after his phone number was written in graffiti at a nearby park the previous August. Their interaction escalated into a violent and traumatic event when Scarratt, who had been released from incarceration shortly before, approached her from behind. He then proceeded to physically assault her by punching and stamping on her face, causing significant injuries including a fractured right cheek and a broken collarbone. During the assault, he also raped her, adding a horrifying layer to the attack.
Following the assault, Scarratt stole the girl’s mobile phone, her bank card, £5 in cash, and her bus pass. The victim, despite her injuries, managed to crawl a short distance and was able to alert a passing cyclist, who promptly called the police. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported her for medical treatment, where she was found to have sustained multiple injuries, including bruising to her face, right eye, and foot.
Law enforcement officers launched an immediate investigation, which led to the arrest of Scarratt. He was found hiding in a hedge in Malvern, Worcestershire, not far from the scene of the attack. During the subsequent court proceedings, it was revealed that Scarratt had previously been convicted of two counts of sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl and another count related to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Despite claiming he believed his victim was an adult, prosecutors presented evidence of messages in which the girl explicitly stated her age, contradicting his assertion.
In May 2023, Scarratt was convicted of multiple charges, including rape, sexual assault by penetration, assault, theft, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The court found him guilty of these serious offenses after a trial at Stafford Crown Court. He was remanded into custody, with sentencing scheduled for later in July. The case has garnered significant media attention due to the heinous nature of the attack and the fact that the offender had recently been released from prison, raising questions about the adequacy of supervision and community safety measures in place.
As the legal process continues, the community remains shaken by the events at Chasewater Country Park, and authorities are under pressure to ensure justice is served and measures are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
