DAVID CORRICK SENTENCED IN HEREFORD FOR CHILD ABUSE IN BROMYARD, MALVERN, AND SUTTON ST NICHOLAS

In a case that has spanned decades and involved multiple locations across Herefordshire, David Corrick, a former social worker, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the historic sexual abuse of three young boys. The abuse took place during his employment at residential children’s homes in Bromyard and Malvern, as well as at a private residence in Herefordshire.

Corrick, aged 55 and residing on Orchard Close in Sutton St Nicholas near Hereford, was convicted after an extensive eight-day trial held at Hereford Crown Court. The court found him guilty of five counts of buggery and three counts of sexual assault, with the offences dating back from 1977 to 1994.

Details of the crimes reveal that the abuse occurred at Froome Bank in Bromyard, a facility where Corrick worked from 1976 until its closure in 1985, and at Barnards Green Road in Malvern, where he was employed from 1985 until 1997. Both of these homes have since been shut down and demolished. Additionally, some of the abuse took place at a private address in Herefordshire, though specific details of this location are not publicly available due to legal restrictions.

Detective Constable Mike Denman, who is part of the Child Protection Unit based in Worcester, provided insight into the case. He stated, “When Corrick was sentenced, it was noted that he had used his position of power and authority to deliberately target vulnerable children from troubled backgrounds. He intimidated and coerced his victims in a planned course of conduct over a significant period of time. His actions were a gross abuse of trust that caused significant lifelong effects on his victims.”

He further emphasized the emotional toll of the case, saying, “This has been a difficult trial due to the distressing subject matter concerned. The victims, who are all now adults, have faced an extremely traumatic few days after a very lengthy investigation. They have shown great bravery and character in facing these issues and have got the result they deserve. They are appreciative of finally having recognition of the torment they endured in their childhood at the hands of someone whose sole responsibility was to care for them, and the impact it has had on their lives. They are now looking forward to moving on with their lives.”

It was also confirmed by a Worcestershire County Council spokesperson that Corrick was employed by the council at the time of the offences. However, the council clarified that these crimes only came to light after Corrick had left their employment. Since then, the council has been cooperating fully with police investigations and has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding.

The council’s representative stated, “The council takes its safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. Recruitment procedures have become more rigorous since these offences were committed.”

Corrick’s criminal history and the lengthy investigation highlight the importance of vigilance and safeguarding in institutions responsible for vulnerable children, and the case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of abuse by those entrusted with care.
