TIMOTHY WALTERS BIRSTALL AND BRIGHOUSE PERVERTED SPY CAM EXPERT JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Birstall and Brighouse, Timothy Walters, a 38-year-old man with a long-standing role as a trusted IT consultant, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in a series of heinous crimes involving child exploitation and voyeurism.Walters, who had been employed by a local junior school in Birstall for over a decade, used his position of trust to carry out illegal activities that have left a lasting impact on the school community and beyond.
The investigation was triggered earlier this year when staff at St Peters Junior School discovered a suspicious device during routine checks.
Two young girls had noticed something unusual, prompting further inspection that led to the discovery of a hidden camera concealed within the false ceiling of the school’s toilets.
Following this discovery, law enforcement authorities launched a comprehensive investigation into Walters’ activities.
It was revealed that he had installed a webcam and a computer system that recorded and stored footage of the girls in the school toilets.
The footage, which spanned from 2003 to 2008, included images of the girls dressing and undressing, capturing moments that should have been private and protected.
Further examination of Walters’ computer uncovered a disturbing collection of over 26,000 child images, some of which were encrypted files that detailed his disturbing fantasies about abusing young girls.
The police also uncovered evidence that Walters had been spying on the teenage daughter of a client for a period of five years, adding to the gravity of his criminal behavior.
During the court proceedings at Leeds Crown Court, Walters pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including six counts of voyeurism, one count of taking indecent photographs, ten counts of making indecent photographs, and one count of possessing indecent images.
His lawyer, Ahmed Nadim, acknowledged that Walters recognized his need for psychological help to address his unhealthy obsession with child pornography, emphasizing that he had not directly harmed any children himself.
Judge Scott Wolstenholme sentenced Walters to five years in prison, highlighting the seriousness of his crimes.
In his remarks, the judge pointed out the aggravating factors, including the breach of trust, invasion of privacy, the persistence of his offending, and the emotional harm inflicted on his victims.
The case has been described as highly unusual and deeply upsetting for the entire school community, which has shown resilience and a commitment to maintaining normalcy despite the distress caused.
Following the sentencing, West Yorkshire Police and Kirklees Council issued a joint statement reaffirming that Walters had no unsupervised contact with pupils at any time.
They expressed their appreciation for the staff, pupils, parents, and governors for their calm and professional response, which helped ensure minimal disruption to school life during this difficult period.
