YORKSHIRE MUM AND DAUGHTER BANNED FOR NEGLECTING DOGS IN 'DISGUSTING' HOME

A mother and daughter have been legally barred from possessing pets after neglecting their dogs in a home described as filthy and unsanitary.

Ann Warmisham, aged 72, and Hayley Warmisham, aged 42, faced over ten years of animal ownership bans following a prosecution by the RSPCA.

The women, residents of Whinney Hill Park in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, were found to be keeping two dogs in deplorable conditions.

An RSPCA officer reported that the premises were laden with rubbish, dirty, and contained faeces and urine in every room.

One of the dogs, Dobby, was 13 years old and had very overgrown nails, making walking difficult.

The other dog, Mickey Blue, about five years old, was suffering from very sore, red eyes.

The court heard that the women did not provide the dogs with a suitable environment—lacking cleanliness, space, and opportunities for exercise or natural behaviors—and failed to get veterinary treatment promptly.

Dobby was suffering from chronic cystitis that remained untreated, while Mickey Blue had bilateral conjunctivitis.

Both dogs were removed from the home in May 2022.

Despite earlier warnings, their conditions persisted.

While conditions seemed to have improved by late 2021 and Hayley Warmisham reported veterinary visits for the dogs, subsequent inspections revealed they were still confined in a dirty bathroom environment.

The smell of ammonia was so strong that an officer was physically overwhelmed despite protective gear.

The court further learned that although both dogs responded well to treatment, both eventually developed cancer and were put to sleep with the owners’ consent to alleviate suffering.

In court, Ann Warmisham admitted her property was unfit for her or her animals, and Hayley Warmisham acknowledged her financial incapacity to properly support the animals.

On February 7, the women appeared at Kirklees Magistrates Court.

Hayley Warmisham was sentenced to a decade-long ban from keeping any animals, received a conditional discharge for 12 months, and was ordered to pay costs of £300 plus a surcharge of £22.

Ann Warmisham was given a seven-year ban, a 12-month conditional discharge, and ordered to pay costs of £100 along with the victim surcharge.
