BORDERS MAN WHO THREATENED TO KILL HIS FORMER PARTNER JAILED FOR 13 MONTHS
2023: A 34-YEAR-OLD man breached a domestic abuse interdict by telephoning his ex-partner from prison and making threats towards her, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.Shaun Grieve pleaded guilty to contacting the woman from HM Prison Edinburgh on October 25 and making threats of violence towards her which breached a court order.
Drew Long, prosecuting, said there were two telephone calls which were taped by the woman at her home.
In one of the conversations, Grieve was heard to say: "I will put a bullet in your head." He also made another threat of violence in the second conversation.
Defence lawyer Ross Dow said they had been empty threats and the situation had now calmed down.
Grieve, of Bowden Road, Newtown St Boswells, was ordered to carry out 60 hours unpaid work as part of a community payback order.
A non-harassment order was also imposed preventing Grieve from having any contact with the woman for the next two years.
2018: A HAWICK man who admitted threatening to kill his former partner has been jailed for 13 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
Shaun Grieve, who is 28, pleaded guilty to seizing the mother of his three children at a house in Galalaw Road, Hawick, on February 26 by the arm, pulling her to the floor and then repeatedly punching her on the head causing a broken nose and bleeding mouth.
The following day he admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing, threatening violence to others and threatening to kill the woman.
He also pleaded guilty to sending messages to a named man on various occasions and uttering threats of violence towards him between February 27 and March 1, and accusing him of sleeping with his former partner.
Additionally, he admitted breaching a court order by entering Scotland over the festive period after being bailed to an address in Blackburn, Lancashire, but was spotted at a friend's house in Hawick.
Sheriff Peter Paterson said there was no alternative to a custodial sentence in the case, and sentenced Grieve to a total of 394 days in prison, back-dated to December 28 when he was remanded in custody.
The assault was described as a 'disgraceful incident' by defence lawyer Mat Patrick, though the relationship was called 'unhealthy' and now over.
