HAWICK MAN DAVID BENNETT CHARGED WITH 2 COUNTS OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
January 2026: A man will face trial at the High Court in Glasgow next year accused of raping two women.44-year-old David Bennett is charged with raping a woman to her injury in his Chay Blyth Place home in December 2018.
He is also said to have raped the second woman also to her injury in his home in January 2023.
Bennett also faces charges of sexually assaulting a third woman at the Chay Blyth Place Property and communicating indecently with her during 2017 and 2018.
He has pleaded not guilty to all four charged.
An intermediate hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday at trial date was fixed for January 12, 2027.
August 2024: A 42-year-old individual appeared before Jedburgh Sheriff Court in a private session on 16 August 2024 to respond to allegations of two rape offences.
The accused, David Bennett from Hawick, is charged with asexual assault and rape, including a second count of rape.
The defendant did not plead at this stage, and the court scheduled further examination of the case.
He was released on bail while awaiting subsequent hearings.

David Bennett is charged with carrying out a series of serious sexual offences spanning several years at a property in Chay Blyth Place.
Prosecutors allege the first attack took place in December 2018, when Bennett is accused of raping a woman to her injury inside his home.
The court also heard allegations that a second woman was raped at the same address in January 2023, again resulting in injury.
In addition to the two rape charges, Bennett faces further accusations of sexually assaulting a third woman at the same property and communicating with her in an indecent manner between 2017 and 2018.
Bennett has pleaded not guilty to all four charges.
During an intermediate hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday, judges confirmed that the case will proceed to a full trial.
Proceedings are scheduled to begin on January 12, 2027.
The accused remains innocent in the eyes of the law unless proven guilty in court.
