FIFE WOMAN SMASHED UP BOYFRIEND’S MERCEDES IN JEALOUS RAGE

A “vindictive” jealous girlfriend, who took revenge on her partner by smashing up his Mercedes has been fined just £240.

Shannon Harkness was raging after seeing her boyfriend out with another woman in a Dunfermline pub.

She took a taxi to his home and attacked his car, hitting it with a garden bench, kicking it and leaving it in a “mangled” state.

However, she managed to avoid paying any compensation when she appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Harkness, 33, of Dunfermline, previously admitted vandalising the car, which her partner valued at £20,000, on October 12.

Depute fiscal Brogan Moffat told the court the man still has not had the vehicle returned and the current bill for repairs was £10,000 and rising, as well as the costs of renting a replacement vehicle.

She smashed the windscreen, scratched and damaged the bodywork, threw a bench and other items at the vehicle and kicked it.

The circumstances were that at 12.30am, the complainer was out socialising in Dunfermline when he approached by the accused and an argument started as he was in the company of another female.

He then got a taxi home and around 1am, he heard a bang.

When he looked outside, he saw her throwing items at his car, including a garden bench, and kicking it.

He filmed it on his phone.

Neighbours came out to try to stop her.

He called police and found his car in a damaged state with a smashed windscreen, a broken registration plate, a damaged wing mirror, scratches, and bodywork damage.

The bill for repairs is £10,111.

At sentencing, the sheriff imposed a community payback order with 80 hours of unpaid work, six months of supervision, and a £240 fine.

Harkness was also put on a non-harassment order for five years.
