In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Nelson, Shane Philbrook has been formally sentenced after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving two teenage girls. The incidents span over a period of time, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior that has now been brought to justice. The first victim, a 13-year-old girl, was befriended by Philbrook through Snapchat in May 2023. What began as online communication quickly escalated when, just two days after their initial contact, Philbrook arranged to meet her in person. During this meeting, he committed a heinous act of sexual assault, raping her and subjecting her to further sexual abuse. The trauma inflicted on the young girl has left a lasting impact, and her bravery in coming forward has been instrumental in bringing the case to court.
The following year, in February, Philbrook's predatory behavior continued when he assaulted a second victim, a 16-year-old girl, at a youth club. This incident further underscored the pattern of abuse and exploitation that Philbrook engaged in, targeting vulnerable teenagers in different settings.
After a thorough trial at Liverpool Crown Court, the 19-year-old offender, who resides on Railway Street in Nelson, was found guilty of multiple serious charges. These included rape, sexual assault by penetration, and five counts of sexual assault by touching. The court's verdict reflects the gravity of his actions and the breach of trust involved in his offenses.

Additionally, Philbrook was subjected to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which aims to restrict his activities and protect the community from further harm. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public safety.
Law enforcement officials, including Detective Constables Shanaz Kone and Louise Warburton, have spoken out about the case. They praised the courage of the victims in coming forward and emphasized the importance of community support in tackling such offenses. The authorities continue to encourage anyone who has experienced similar abuse to step forward and seek help, reinforcing the message that no one should suffer in silence.
