A violent predator who subjected his partner to nearly a year of assaults, degradation, intimidation and psychological torture has finally been removed from the streets.31-year-old Scott Macleod, from Dunfermline, has been jailed for four years after a jury heard harrowing evidence of the brutality he inflicted — not only in Rosyth, but even while travelling abroad in Italy and Croatia.
His campaign of abuse was so severe that his victim was left with a broken elbow requiring two surgeries, a cut to her scalp, and long-lasting psychological trauma.
Jurors were shown a recording where Macleod shouted in her face, mocked her, and physically assaulted her, capturing the chilling reality of what she endured behind closed doors.
Throughout 2023, he controlled her movements, monitored her phone, hurled racist insults in front of her, and raged with paranoid accusations of infidelity.
At one point he threw boiling water meant for a Pot Noodle at her.
On another occasion he grabbed her head and smashed it against a wall, sending her crashing to the floor.
His abuse was not impulsive — it was patterned, relentless, and strategic.
The charge sheet listed twelve separate acts of violence and coercive control, painting a clear picture of a man who believed he could dominate and terrorise a woman without consequence.
Sheriff Susan Duff condemned the “very serious conduct” proven against him, describing the physical, verbal and psychological violence he deployed.
The courtroom heard how he even threatened to stab people inside her home — a stark warning of the level of danger he posed.
This was not a one-off fall from grace.
Macleod is a repeat violent offender, with convictions for a 2011 serious assault with a bottle that caused disfigurement, and a 2015 assault causing injury.
Despite this, his solicitor argued for a non-custodial sentence — a plea that was entirely incompatible with the danger he represents.
Instead, Macleod will now serve four years behind bars, backdated to his remand, along with a five-year ban on contacting his victim.
Sheriff Duff made it clear: this was domestic abuse at its most vicious, fuelled by entitlement, aggression, and a history of violence.
The victim survived a year in the shadow of a man capable of extreme harm; today’s sentence reflects at least some recognition of the danger he poses to women and the wider public.
A violent repeat offender is off the streets — and his victim can finally begin to rebuild without fear.
