CLYDEBANK RAPIST PAUL STEWART RETURNS TO JAIL FOR FAILING TO REPORT
A convicted rapist, Paul Stewart, has been sentenced to an additional five years in prison after failing to report his whereabouts while on licence.
Stewart, who was previously jailed for raping a deaf woman in Edinburgh at age 21, was on strict licence conditions requiring him to stay in contact with police.
Despite police attempts with surprise visits to his home in Clydebank, Stewart was not found.
When contacted by police, he refused to disclose his location and was subsequently arrested on December 9 in Brucehill, Dumbarton.
Stewart's original sentence stemmed from a 1995 attack where he raped a deaf woman, aged 26, after luring her away from a nightclub, which the court described as a "cowardly, despicable, callous and violent attack".
The court deferred the new sentence for reports, with Stewart set to be eligible for parole in April 2021.
