KELSO MAN COMPRESSED PARTNER'S THROAT DURING ASSAULT
A 37-YEAR-OLD man who admitted assaulting his partner to the danger of her life has received a jail sentence of almost a year at Selkirk Sheriff Court.Mark Turnbull grabbed the woman by the throat and compressed it during the incident at a house in Liddesdale Road, Hawick, on August 29, 2022.
He also admitted charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and breaching bail orders.
Defence lawyer Ross Dow said his client was in a far better place following his first court hearing and had presented and spoken well during meetings.
He accepted the court had no option but to impose a custodial sentence but added Turnbull had successfully gone through drug rehabilitation.
Turnbull, formerly of Kelso but who gave an address in Glasgow, was sentenced to a total of 360 days by Sheriff Peter Paterson.
He had already spent the equivalent of eight months on remand in connection with the matter.
