LIAM SKINNER FROM HAWICK PLEADS GUILTY TO THREATENING BEHAVIOR IN SCOTT CRESCENT INCIDENT

Liam Skinner, aged 24, appeared before Jedburgh Sheriff Court to admit guilt for engaging in threatening and abusive conduct at a residence located on Scott Crescent in Hawick. The incident took place on March 27, and the court proceedings revealed troubling details about the nature of Skinner's relationship with his partner.

According to court reports, Skinner and his partner had been involved in a relationship for approximately three years, during which they also became parents to a child. Despite their long-standing connection, the woman described their relationship as tumultuous and characterized by frequent conflicts. She specifically mentioned that Skinner had a volatile temper, often expressing his frustration through aggressive actions such as slamming doors and punching walls whenever he was upset.

On the day of the incident, the woman requested Skinner’s assistance with feeding their baby. This seemingly simple request appeared to irritate Skinner, who responded with anger. She recounted that he began shouting at her, demanding she move out of his way, and his behavior quickly escalated to aggression. The situation deteriorated further when Skinner told her to leave the house, prompting her to make the decision to do so with their infant in tow, out of fear for her safety.

Neighbours in the vicinity of Scott Crescent were disturbed by the commotion and reported that such disruptive behavior was not uncommon in the area. They witnessed the woman fleeing the scene barefoot, carrying their baby, and running down the street in distress. The witnesses also confirmed that Skinner’s aggressive conduct was a regular occurrence, contributing to a tense and unsafe environment in the neighborhood.

During the court hearing, Skinner’s defense lawyer, Ross Dow, stated that the relationship had now ended, implying that the incident was an isolated event. The court took into account the seriousness of the behavior and the impact on the victim.

Sheriff Peter Paterson sentenced Skinner to perform 60 hours of unpaid community service as an alternative to a monetary fine. Additionally, a Non-Harassment Order was issued, prohibiting Skinner from having any contact with his former partner for a period of two years, in an effort to prevent further incidents and protect the victim from potential harm.
