FIFE MAN GRABBED HIS GIRLFRIEND AND WAS WARNED HE IS CLOSE TO JAIL

A Fife man grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and threw her to the ground as she tried to escape through a window after he locked the door.

Lewis Gibson‘s victim was “tired of dealing with him” in a drunken state and wanted to leave the property in Dunfermline in June last year, a prosecutor said.

She did not report what happened until after a second domestic incident involving Gibson on August 18 this year, when she again used the back window to leave.

Gibson, 23, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing after earlier pleading guilty to domestically-aggravated charges of assault and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at his home address.

A sheriff said he is an “angry bully at times,” and warned he is close to being jailed.

Defence lawyer Stephen Morrison said the issue for Gibson is, at times, there is a “massive consumption of alcohol.” He said his client is still in a relationship with the woman.

Mr Morrison suggested deferring sentencing until February 18 next year – when Gibson has a community payback order review for another case – to see if he can demonstrate stability regarding alcohol use, so that an unpaid work order could be available to him.

Sheriff Krista Johnston said: “He is standing just marginally on the outside of the door to imprisonment.” The sheriff told him he has the “opportunity to change and mature” and live a pro-social life in a good relationship, adding: “If you don’t take the opportunity I will jail you.” Sentencing was further deferred until February 18 next year.
