KYLE CAMPBELL'S BRUTAL CRIME SPREE IN CAMBORNE AND SURROUNDINGS

Kyle Campbell, a man from Mitcham in Surrey, has been convicted of a series of violent and disturbing incidents that took place primarily in Camborne, Cornwall. The events, which spanned over a period of months, culminated in a brutal assault on his partner and her young son, leaving a trail of physical and emotional trauma.

It all began in August of the previous year when Campbell was staying at his partner’s residence on the Pengegon estate in Camborne. During a dinner, the three-year-old boy, who has autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), accidentally sprinkled too much garlic salt on the potatoes. Campbell, who was present at the time, began insulting the autistic child in a derogatory manner. When his partner intervened, telling him he should not speak to her son in such a manner, Campbell’s reaction was violent and aggressive. He threw a glass bottle containing garlic salt at her, striking her in the mouth and causing damage to some of her teeth. Campbell then blamed his partner for the injury, claiming she should have ducked to avoid the bottle.

Despite this violent episode, his partner chose not to call the police at that time. She believed that the incident was isolated and hoped that Campbell would change his ways, especially since it was only the second time in two months that he had been violent towards her. However, her hopes were dashed when, about a month later, Campbell’s behavior escalated further.

After her return to their home on the Pengegon estate with her son, Campbell exited the house and sulked outside for several hours. Later that evening, after putting her son to bed, Campbell stormed back into the home. He accused his partner of withholding money that he needed for a planned holiday with his father to Weymouth. His demeanor quickly turned aggressive and verbally abusive. Campbell began to complain that “nobody loves him and nobody cares about him,” and his behavior grew more hostile.

The situation deteriorated further when Campbell mocked his partner’s weight. As she attempted to take a bottle of beer from his hand—he was intoxicated—he responded by pouring the remaining beer over her head and smearing it onto her face. He called her a “fat slag” and a “pig” during this assault. The violence did not stop there; Campbell proceeded to damage her belongings, smashing kitchen items such as her kettle, tearing a school portrait of her son, and pouring milk over a pile of clothes.

The court heard that Campbell then physically assaulted his partner, grabbing her by the hair and dragging her along the floor into the hallway. He also placed her in a chokehold, causing her to lose consciousness for a few seconds. When she managed to free herself, Campbell got on top of her again, grabbing her by the throat with one hand and punching her in the face with the other. Despite her efforts to escape, he grabbed her once more by the hair, accusing her of “getting pregnant on purpose.”

During this violent episode, Campbell’s partner attempted to retrieve her son from his bedroom. Both she and her son were visibly distressed and in tears. As she was leaving her home with her son, Campbell kicked her in the back, causing both of them to fall down some concrete steps. He continued his assault by kicking her again while she was on the ground. The ordeal finally ended when they managed to flee to a friend’s house, where police were contacted.

The court was informed that the most severe part of this incident lasted for approximately an hour and left both the boy and his mother in a state of terror. Campbell was arrested in September following this latest episode of violence. During his arrest, he assaulted a police officer by headbutting him. In police interviews, Campbell blamed his partner for the injuries he inflicted, even suggesting that some injuries might have been received at her workplace, a sweet shop.

He faced multiple charges, including causing actual bodily harm, assault by beating, criminal damage, assaulting an emergency worker, and intentional strangulation. Campbell pleaded guilty to all charges when he appeared before Bodmin Magistrates’ Court in December of the previous year. The court revealed that Campbell had a lengthy criminal record, with 11 previous convictions for 14 offences, including four against the person such as common assault and battery on an ex-partner.

His legal representative argued that alcohol was a significant factor in his violent behavior, noting that Campbell had not committed any further offences since last September and had ceased smoking cannabis and drinking alcohol. The barrister emphasized that Campbell understood he would likely serve time in prison.

His Honour Judge Simon Carr condemned Campbell’s actions, stating that his violence was unprovoked and driven by alcohol. The judge described the incident as a sustained assault, highlighting that Campbell had struck his partner, grabbed her by the hair, choked her, pushed her down concrete steps, and even headbutted a police officer attempting to arrest him. The judge also pointed out Campbell’s extensive violent record.

Ultimately, Campbell was sentenced to 21 months in prison. He will serve approximately 40% of his sentence before being eligible for release on licence. Additionally, a restraining order was imposed, prohibiting him from contacting his former partner for the next ten years, in an effort to protect her and her son from further harm.
