RHYLIE WILLOUGHBY SENTENCED FOR ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR IN CAMBORNE
Rhylie Willoughby, a 19-year-old resident of Uglow Close in Camborne, has been formally sentenced at Truro Crown Court following his conviction for a series of abusive actions directed towards his former partner. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of physical, emotional, and controlling abuse that spanned over three years, during which the victim endured significant hardship and fear.Willoughby pleaded guilty to two serious charges: one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and another of coercive behavior within an intimate relationship. The court heard detailed accounts from the victim, who described how Willoughby’s abusive conduct affected her daily life. She recounted instances of physical violence, including a specific incident where he punched her in the leg over issues related to her phone and her access to it. Beyond physical harm, she endured emotional torment, with Willoughby calling her hurtful names such as “fat,” mocking her body, and sending abusive messages that further eroded her self-esteem.
The victim also described how Willoughby’s controlling tendencies extended beyond the relationship’s end. Despite their breakup, he continued to stalk her, making relentless attempts to contact her. Court evidence showed that he called her a staggering 568 times and sent numerous messages, many of which implied that he was following her movements and monitoring her whereabouts. This persistent stalking caused her ongoing distress and fear for her safety.
Throughout the court hearing, the victim expressed her feelings of isolation, embarrassment, and constant worry. She revealed that her life was overshadowed by financial concerns, fear of Willoughby’s reactions, and a diminished sense of self-worth, all of which were exacerbated by his relentless insults and controlling behavior.
In his defense, Willoughby’s legal representatives highlighted that he had shown remorse while in custody and acknowledged his selfish actions. They pointed out that he recognized his behavior was influenced by a traumatic childhood, which he claimed had impacted his mental state and decision-making.
However, the judge was clear in condemning Willoughby’s conduct, emphasizing that his actions had made the victim’s life a “living hell” and that such behavior must be stopped. As part of his sentence, Willoughby was ordered to complete a two-year community order, which includes participation in rehabilitation programs and performing unpaid community work. Additionally, he was issued a five-year restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim, ensuring her safety moving forward.
The court’s ruling underscores the serious nature of domestic abuse and stalking, and it serves as a reminder of the profound impact such behavior can have on victims’ lives. The judge concluded by stating that the ongoing harassment and abuse must cease, and that justice has been served in this case from Camborne.
