PETER BOWDITCH SENTENCED IN CAMBORNE FOR SIX YEARS OVER CHILD ABUSE CASE

In a case that has shocked the community of Camborne, Peter Bowditch has been sentenced to six years in prison for the systematic abuse of two young girls over a span of six years. The court heard harrowing details of the offences, which have left lasting scars on the victims and have deeply affected the local area.

Judge Mr. Justice Butterfield described Bowditch's actions as 'very serious' and emphasized the profound impact on the victims. He stated, 'The impact on these little girls has inevitably been very grave. They have carried the memories of your abuse for years and each has borne a heavy burden of shame, hurt and humiliation.'

Peter Bowditch, who resides in South Tehidy, Camborne, pleaded guilty to multiple charges. These included five counts of indecent assault on one girl and one count of indecent assault and inciting her to commit an act of gross indecency on the other girl. The court noted that allegations of attempted rape were also present but were left on the file, with the possibility of being dealt with later only with the court's permission or through the Court of Appeal.

During the proceedings, Jeremy Leaning, representing the defense, highlighted Bowditch's limited intellectual capacity, suggesting that this would make it difficult for him to cope with the prison environment. The judge ordered that Bowditch must register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Additionally, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was imposed, which prohibits him from being in the company of any child without proper supervision, aiming to prevent further harm and protect the community from potential risks.
