JORDAN MCKAY FROM DUNFERMLINE CONVICTED OVER CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN KIRKCALDY
A resident of Dunfermline, Jordan McKay, has been officially convicted of possessing a significant collection of child abuse images and videos. The authorities uncovered nearly 18,000 indecent materials during a search of his property, which led to the seizure of multiple electronic devices, including computers, a mobile phone, USB drives, and a hard drive. These devices contained a disturbing array of illicit content, with over 2,200 images and 560 videos classified as the most graphic, known as 'Category A'.Investigations revealed that McKay had been downloading these illegal materials over a span of more than two and a half years, starting from July 1, 2018, and continuing until January 13, 2021. The extensive period of possession underscores the persistent nature of his offending behavior.
His case was heard at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, where the 27-year-old was formally sentenced. The court ordered him to complete 160 hours of unpaid community service and mandated that he be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of two years. During the proceedings, his solicitor argued that although the number of images was not the lowest, the court should consider alternative sentencing options rather than imprisonment. The solicitor requested that McKay not be given a custodial sentence, emphasizing the circumstances of the case.
However, Sheriff James Williamson made it clear that any breach of the conditions set forth could result in a custodial sentence. As part of the court’s ruling, McKay was also prohibited from using devices to access the internet unless he ensures that his search history is saved and cannot be erased, aiming to prevent further offenses. The court acknowledged the gravity of the offense but ultimately decided on a non-custodial sentence, taking into account the specific details of the case and the defendant’s circumstances.
